Semex Sires Sweep Royal Holstein Show
Article posted on November 18, 2010, 12:04:23

Semex Holstein sires once again demonstrated their show ring strength at the 2010 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, with stud code 200HO sires lacing the pedigrees of 63% of all animals shown and capturing the championships from heifers through the milking cows. In all, 33 different Semex sires worked the ring, with their 209 daughters impressing in each class. One hundred seven of these placed in the top 10 of their respective classes: 13 were class winners; 11 placed second; and seven placed third.

The world's dominant show sire, Semex's Braedale Goldwyn, once again showed his strength by handily capturing the 2010 Premier Sire Award of both the Junior and Senior shows. Goldwyn's 105 daughters represented a commanding 31% of the entire show, leaving their mark with 46% placing in the top 10 of their classes and six class winners including the show's Grand Champion... the impressive 1st 4 Yr Old, Winterbay Goldwyn Lotto.

· 1st December Calf: Kingsway Goldwyn Allybaba
· 2nd Summer Yrlg: Tolamike Goldwyn Madeleine
· 1st Jr Yrlg & Jr Champion: Rockymountain Goldwyn Trisha
· 1st Inter. Yrlg & Res. Jr. Champion: Craigcrest Rubies Gold Rejoice
· 2nd Inter. Yrlg: Kingsway Gold Abrakazoo
· 3rd Inter. Yrlg: Siemers Goldwyn Goldie
· 1st Sr. Yrlg: Milibro Goldwyn Roselilace
· 2nd Sr. Yrlg: Petitclerc Goldwyn Alex
· 1st Jr 3 Yr Old & HM Inter. Champion: Deboer Gldwn Snow Velvet
· 3rd Jr 3 Yr Old: Sudview Nordale Gold Liberty
· 2nd Sr 3 Yr Old & Res. Inter. Champion: Pierstein Goldwyn Sunshine
· 1st 4 Yr Old & Grand Champion: Winterbay Goldwyn Lotto
· 2nd 4 Yr Old: Safari Kelly Goldwyn

Goldwyn Lotto represents Goldwyn's first Grand Champion win at a national North American show. No stranger to the ring, Lotto was 2nd 4 Yr Old at the 2010 World Dairy Expo and was All-American and All-Canadian Sr 3 Yr Old in 2009. Judge Gerald Coughlin described her as, "A beautiful, beautiful dairy cow with that balance we've been talking about. She's got such height and width to her rear udder with perfect teat placement and a (more) level floor of her mammary today."

Other Semex sires working the ring and flexing their Designer Series™ strength included well-known sires Wilcoxview Jasper and Ladino Park Talent *RC. Jasper was the Res. Premier Sire and had 31 daughters competing with impressive results including:

· 1st Summer Yrlg: Skycrest Jasper Nosebleed
· 1st Milking Yrlg: Comestar Alie Jasper
· 2nd Jr Yrlg: Fontenoise Jasper Penelope
· 2nd Jr 2 Yr Old: Comestar Horizon Jasper

Semex Millionaire Sire Talent sent five daughters to the ring, with two capturing the winning red ribbons including the Hon. Mention Grand Champion & Intermediate Champion Award on the 1st Sr 3 Yr Old, Rockymountain Talent Licorice. Licorice was a crowd favorite, evident by the resounding approval when she was named Intermediate Champion. "This young cow is a champion due to her balance, height and width to her mammary system," said Judge Coughlin. Talent's other class winner was Rainyridge Talent Barbara. Barbara was one of the most talked about cows leading up to the fall shows and was very successful, placing 1st 5 Yr Old at both the Royal and World Dairy Expo.

Released in August, Semex's 0200HO02137 Pine-Tree Sid's daughter, Micheret Alexandra Sid, was a favorite in Semex's Royal and World Dairy Expo Walk of Fames and didn't disappoint on show day, placing 1st Sr. 2 Yr Old, Best Udder and 1st Bred & Owned! This young sire daughter has only improved since World Dairy Expo where she was 5th, Best Udder & 1st Bred & Owned. On the road to the Royal, she placed 1st and was Hon. Mention Intermediate Champion at the Quebec International Show. A remarkable accomplishment for a young sire, Sid continues to gather momentum as a Semex Designer Series™, Repromax™ and Health$mart™ sire, underlining his true 'triple threat' abilities worldwide.

Overall in the older milking classes, Semex sires were strong from top to bottom, siring 73% of all cows shown in the 5 Yr Old (72%), Mature (57%) and Longtime Production (100%) classes including the class winner in all three classes and every Longtime Production participant. Notable in these classes were:
· 1st Mature Cow: Flechedor Stormatic Zita (by Comestar Stormatic)
· 2nd Mature Cow: EO-Siemers Ashlyns Angel (by Comestar Stormatic)
· 1st Longtime Production Cow & Res. Grand Champion: Starbrite Lyster Lyndsay (by TCET Lyster)
· 2nd Longtime Production Cow: Quality Ridge Stormi Hazel (by Comestar Stormatic)

Overall, 33 different Semex sires were represented at the Canadian National Holstein Show in Toronto, demonstrating Semex's ability to sire the current and future legends, each one delivering on Semex's promise that 'Every Dose Counts'.
