Semex Jersey Sires: Arriving At The Perfect Time
Article posted on August 9, 2011, 22:04:16

noneListen in on conversations involving owners of Jerseys about Jersey sires and you'll likely hear this comment, "He's a great sire to use if you have big, strong cows to use him on."

Arriving on the scene at just the right moment to complement those sires who sire the ultra-dairy and perhaps frailer kind is the new #4 LPI sire 0200JE00335 Unique VS Habit. Habit has proven to be a true constructer and strength bull based on his first crop daughters. However, he is a constructer bull who also brings appealing udders, super-sweet component yields with percentages and good milk flow and low SCS to the table. Additionally, the strength he sires is true dairy strength with way above average proofs for both strength and angularity at +8 and +12 respectively.

There are reasons why this exciting new release does what he does as a transmitter... His pedigree is replete with sires that leave great udders. Also, he's from a cow family of big-bodied, fine-uddered cows who like to milk and are low maintenance. The 'H Family' motto seems to be, "Just get out of our way and leave us alone so we can get to work!"

Habit's pedigree concentrates the breed-changing genetics of the global superstar Highland Magic Duncan with multiple crosses to Duncan from the maternal and paternal sides of his pedigree. Among Habit's star-studded maternal ancestors are the famed Valleystream Silver B Hilda Ex, (first Jersey in Canada to yield more than 30,000 pounds of milk), and his granddam Valleystream Jude Helga an Excellent 91-3E 15,000 kg producer who was the star of the truly Master Breeder Valleystream herd. When the herd left its Ontario home for Alberta in May 2004, Helga offered up 1,313 kgs of fat plus protein on her 15,000 kilogram lactation. Five generations of females behind Habit are at 4.0% protein lifetime or much higher and there are six generations Very Good or Excellent in his ancestry with four of those being Excellent!

Habit's dam, Valleystream Remake Honey Ex, represents what this family is all about and can do. With two lactations over 9,000 kgs of milk and 500 kgs of fat, Honey averages 5.6% fat and 4.2% fat with strong plus deviations from herd mates over three lactations. An accomplished show cow, Honey wowed classifiers in Canada's multi-breed classification system with scores of 91 for Mammary System, 92 for Dairy Strength, 94 for Rump and a stunning 96 for Feet and Legs on the way to her 91 point overall score. She has yielded a 91-point maternal sister to Habit who averages 5.7% fat and 4.4% protein on four well above average lactations to date.

Habit is sired by O. F. Barber Rocket, a bull renowned around the globe for siring great-uddered cows.

Expect the modern, hard-working dairy kind from Habit, with the added bonuses of high component yields, loads of power with capacity and long-lasting udders.

Habit's shining teammate among Semex's August 2011 stable of new releases is 0200JE00446 Lencrest I Pod. I Pod is an Iatola son from the famed excelling Duncan Belle family! This Designer Series™ and high fertility Repromax™ sire delivers great component levels, eye-catching udders and flashy daughters. Debuting at the #5 LPI position, I Pod posts great 0.31% F, 0.21% P with +8 Conf and +8 Mammary Systems.

Together Habit and I Pod represent a bold new era for Semex in our unrelenting quest to meet and exceed the needs of today's customers as they plan for future generations of profitable Jerseys!
