Semex has always been a proponent of genomics, participating in the large Canada-US project that was the forerunner of today's genomic revolution. Our goal in using genomic selection and our Genomax™ program is to increase the number and diversity of elite bulls available to clients, allowing them to make more genetic progress in their own herds.
With the April 2012 genetic evaluations, the UK published their first ever genomic indexes. This resulted in a tremendous success for Semex's Genomax™ sires and underscores Semex's position as a genomic leader!
Code 200HO bulls captured three of the top five, and ten of the top 15 positions, led by 0200HO06267 Gen-I-Beq Lavaman (Man-O-Man x Goldwyn), offering good production with high percentages, outstanding health traits and calving ease. Next was another Semex sire, 0200HO07453 Pirolo Solemio (Man-O-Man x Goldwyn), offering great type, solid milk, fat protein and health traits.
Semex sires continued their domination of the top five with 0200HO07471 Denmire Merchandise ranking fourth. Merchandise is a UK bred bull sired by Semex's own 0200HO00402 Mainstream Manifold from a British Goldwyn dam. Tested worldwide, Merchandise has outstanding fat production, good health traits and solid type.
