Semex-sired animals dominated the blue and broad ribbon count at International Dairy Week across four breeds recently.
Ten of the 16 class winners (62.5%) in the Holstein show were sired by Semex bulls and proving the company's depth.... Close to half the top-three finishers in every Holstein class (47%) were also backed by a Semex sire!
In the Jersey show, all three Intermediate Champions were sired by Semex sires: Pine Haven Senior, BW Country and Bushlea Brook Biestar respectively! The Junior Champion was a Select Scott Minister daughter, Brunchilli Minister Tammy.
In the Ayrshires, Semex-sired 56% of the top-three class placings and 11 of the 13 class winners (85%). They included the Senior Champion Ayrshire exhibit, Kendi Spring Blossom (by Kellcrest Ice Man), Reserve Champion Cow, Midway Park Lucky Spirit (by Kellcrest Harmony), Reserve Junior Champion heifer, Regal Park Poker Shimmer (by Des Chamois Poker) and Premier Sire, Kellcrest Ice Man.
Semex also had a hand in the Guernsey show's Champion Cow, Brookleigh Action's Brunch (by Brookleigh BQ Action).
But it was in the strong Holstein show where Semex sires shone. It was Semex sires behind the Supreme Champion and Best Udder of the Holstein Show (by Stouder Morty), Honourable Mention Champion Holstein (by Canyon Breeze Allen), Honourable Mention Intermediate Holstein (by Silky Gibson), Junior Champion (by Jasper) and Honourable Mention Junior Champion (by Braedale Goldwyn).

The Supreme Champion of the Show was bred by double Master Breeders, Ross and Leanne Dobson, who have a deep appreciation and long association with Semex product. The Tasmanian couple's prefix has now been on four IDW Champion Cow titles in the last seven years with three cows - making Fairvale the most prolific prefix to take the top award in the Australian registered industry.
The latest champion an EX91 Stouder Morty daughter, Fairvale Morty Lady 51, was bought by one the country's smartest cattlemen, Matt Templeton, together with Lindsay, Sandra and Lisa Thompson, from Bracknell when she was a two-year-old. They developed her from their home base and this year she stepped out ready to play ball in the five-year-old class under IDW judge Brian Leslie. Morty Lady's pedigree reads EX91 Stouder Morty x VG89 Hanoverill Renegade x VG85 Townson Lindy x EX Hanoverhill Starbuck.
Jr Champion of the Show was Cairnsdale VF Jasper Candace by Wilcoxview Jasper has enjoyed an unbeaten show season, including Supreme Junior Champion at Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne Royal. She is without question, one of the most exciting young animals coming through.
Goldwyn was the Res. Premier Sire of the show.
